April 19, 2014 – Hawkstone Park, UK – KTM Factory rider Andreas Letti Lettenbichler scored a sixth place at the 10th edition of the Tough One Extreme Enduro at the Hawkstone Park in the UK and moves up to the third position in the Kings of Extreme Enduro ranking.
Letti came to the UK bringing high ambitions for a new track at the new Tough One venue Hawstone Park. The new track actually turned out to be extremely fast instead of technically demanding. Over time the track got more difficult due to single trails getting deeper and deeper so that.
The start at the Tough One is Le Mans style and Letti got away on third position behind his teammate Jonny Walker and Alfredo Gomez. He was able to pass Alfredo quickly and rode with Jonny leading the race for about one lap until David Knight passed him. Letti kept the third position with a good gap between himself and Paul Bolton until he arrived at a downhill section where the rear wheel got out of control for a moment resulting Letti to crash into 2 expert riders. During this crash the front of the bike was deformed massively and it took the German KTM Factory team rider quite a while to fix it in a way that would allow continuing the race. During this unplanned pit stop Letti certainly got passed by a lot of riders so that he had to fight back in his “never give up style” that he is known for. He had to pit stop again to fix the fork so he lost more time. For the rest of the race Letti had to straighten the fork again and again.
“Nevertheless I was catching up lap by lap and was able to pass Ben Hemingway so I finished on sixth position. The crash was bad luck. The rear wheel got hit during that downhill and I lost contact of the right foot peg for a moment and as a result ran into the two experts. Even though I tried to fix the fork twice it never really remained straight so I had to fix it again and again during the race, which cost time and energy. Given these circumstances I have to be happy with the 6th position here at the Tough One – which was rather the Fast One this year.
Now I’m fully concentrating on the preparations for Erzberg where I’ll certainly go for podium as in the last years.”
